Creation of Mutt and Temple in New York U.S.A
A 23 acre plot has been acquired in New Jersey, U.S.A., in a place called Hope Well to locate Koviloor Mutt and to build Vedanta Centre and Cultural Centre for the benefit of all those who are interested in our culture. It is proposed to build a mutt with facilities for 50 sanyasis and a temple like that of Chidambaram in 2.5 acres of site. The temple will be a replica of Chidambaram with Nataraja shrine and Vishnu shrine. We propose to maintain personnel needed like Agama Pandits, Nagaswaram Players, Oduvars, who sing Devaram and Thiruvachagam for the daily ritual in the temple besides teaching Vedas, Vedanta, Dance and Music needed for temple worship. The mutt is headed by Swami Saswathananda.
Sree La Sree Nachiappa Gnanadesika Swamigal
Swamiji is the present head and the twelfth pontiff of the Koviloor Mutt. He is a direct descendant of Koviloor Aandavar, the founder-head of the Mutt. Swamiji made a mark in the field of photography and printing technology and has been part of the "kalakshethra" founded by Mrs. Rukmini Arundale for nearly six decades. Swamiji earned a lot of wealth and now as the head off the Mutt makes use of his wealth in the service of the Lord for the benefit of the people. Among the very many initiatives of swamiji is the Koviloor Asdheenam Vedanta Center in New Jersey established in 2000, to keep the Indian cultural heritage alive in the West.
Sree Swami Sasvatananda
With a commitment to his own spiritual growth swamiji pursued the study of the spiritual literature in Sandeepany Sadhanalaya, Mumbai, and then served as a spiritual teacher in Chinmaya Mission, Chennai, and under the same organization in the U.S.A. for further independent study and meditation swamiji went to Rishikesh and lived there from 1999 to 2005. As a full-fledged spiritual teacher swamiji has taught in Chennai in the last couple of years. Swami Sasvatananda is a mature person of compassion who knows what he teaches. Academically Swamiji has a Masters in physics and also a Bachelors degree in teaching. Swami Sasvatananda present with us in KAV Center.
