சந்திர யோகம் Candra Yokam (Inner Astronomy)

The theme of recovering youthful vitality and virility is a favorite theme with the Siddhas many of whom actually achieved it and lived for long some even to the ripe old age of 120 and so forth. Even modern science is in favor of such a possibility where they are studying the various ways old age sets in and how to avoid it or delay it through medication and so forth,

Here a technique is mentioned and which is definitely metaphysical as much as Yogic. It is suggested that one should access the Realm of the Lotus of Thousand Petals, said to be the Sahasrat Talam where originate and roam the Inner Moon Sun Stars and so forth. What remains the Unconscious or the Subtle Body, the Sookkuma Teekam become the conscious world where metaphysical ignorance in relation to such matters is destroyed.

Yogic meditations on the influence of these Inner Sun and Moon would disclose how TIME consciousness as such or historicity of human understanding originates making the soul a historical entity -- being thrown into an endless cycle of births deaths.

Now it is suggested that once the soul lifts itself up into the Timeless Realms by understanding how time itself originates, and where resides BEING Himself, the Woman would assume the shape of the Full Moon and secret an endless flow of Amutu, the ambrosia that would help in the recovery of youthful vitality of virility. This Amutu will continuously dissolve and remove the deposits of Old Age and through that help out the rejuvenation process.

மண்மதி காலங்கள் மூன்றும் வழி கண்டு

வெண்மதி தோன்றிய நாளில் விளைந்த பின்

தண்மதி வீழ்வு அளவில் கணம் இன்றே

உரை:

ஞானத்தை வளர்த்து வளர்த்து, ஆதார சக்கரங்களாக ஏறி ஏறி, குண்டலினி சத்தி தண்மதியாகவும் கதிரவனாகவும் சுடரும் உச்சித் தளமாகிய சகஸ்ரத் தளம் அடைந்து, அங்கு எவ்வாறு மூல நாட்டங்களாகப் பல எழவே தான் எதிர் நிகழ்வு இறப்பு என்றவாறு குறிப்புக்கால உணர்வுத் தோன்ற அதன் அடிப்படையில் உலகியற் காலங்கள் தோன்றுகின்றன என்ற காலவுணர்வு பற்றிய உண்மையைக் காணமுடியும். இந்தத் தெளிவோடு ஒருவன் அமைதியாக வாழ, அகத்துச் சந்திரன் பூரணமதியாக வளர்ந்து அளப்பரிய அமுதக் கசிவு நடந்து கொண்டே இருக்கும்படி குறையின்றி (கணம் இன்றி) அருளி இளைமை மீட்சிக்கு வழி செய்யும்.

குறிப்பு:

உச்சித் தாமரைத் தளம் அடைந்து திரிகால ஞானத்தின் சூக்குமத்தை அறிந்தவர்கள் பூரணமதி வடிவின் அம்மை அருளால் இளமை மீட்சி மகிழ்வர் என்றது.

Meaning:

If one ascends the various Cakras through developing and gaining in metaphysical illuminations, and reaches the Sahasra Talam where roams the Inner Sun and Moon, and through noting how they install the various kinds of intentions and through that create the Time consciousness in terms of the future the present and the past, one can have the Full Moon deep within the Unconscious. Then there will be a continuous flow of Ambrosia or the Amutu which will help the recovery of youthful vitality.

Deepening the Breathing

It has been noted that breathing is central for not only continued living but also for healthy living. The life processes in the body can be sustained only when breathing as such is sustained. One of the limbs of the AstaGaka Yoga is PraNayama, the various kinds of exercises related to breath control.

Here we find a Depth Psychological explanation of how one succeeds in maintaining Deep Breathing where exhalation extends 12 inches. The deepest breathing takes place during sexual activity and lasts for a few minutes immediately after the orgasm. This perhaps is related to recovering the energy loss during the coitus.

Now here we have an explanation of how similar deep breathing takes place under normal circumstances whereby the oxidation processes in the lungs are accelerated and through that good health maintained.

When the first six divisions of the rising sun unites with the last six divisions of waning Moon, there is an inner energization whereby the breathing becomes maximally deep but without any sexual activities. Perhaps what we have is a transfer of psychic energy from these inner sun and moon to the breathing processes so that we have such deep breathing helping out the basic oxidation processes in the body that ensures the continuous supply of clean blood to the various parts of the body. This helps out the rejuvenation process- the rebuilding of the lost tissues and so forth

மலர்ந்து எழு பன்னிரண்டு அங்குலம் ஓடி

அலர்ந்து விழுந்தமை யார் அறிவாரே?

உரை:

அகத்து சூக்கும தேகத்தில் ஆதித்த வடிவில் குண்டலலினி சத்தி வளர்கின்றபோது, முதல் ஆறு கலைகள். தேய்கின்ற சந்திர வடிவ குண்டலினி சத்தியின் பின் ஆறு கலைகளோடு இணங்க, ஆன்மா மூச்சு மிக ஆழமாகி பன்னிரண்டு அங்குலம் பாய்ந்து வெளியே ஓடி பின் உள் இழுக்கப்பட்டு விழும்.

குறிப்பு: சூக்கும தேகத்து தெய் சந்திரனும் வளர் சூரியனும் இணங்கவே தான் ஆழமான உடசுவாசம் நிட்சுவாசம் அமைந்து உடல் நலத்தைத் தரும்.

Meaning:

When the six divisions of the rising Sun in the subtle body(or the Unconscious) unites with the six divisions of the waning Moon, the breathing of the person will become maximally deep with the breath extending out 12 inches during exhalation. The breathing in this way becomes deep in both breathing out and breathing in.

Sexuality and the Inner Moon

Almost all religions advocate celibacy as a way of life necessary for advancing in metaphysical life through gaining deeper and deeper visions. Such visions are the contributions of the Inner Moon that resides in the Suukkuma Teeekam or the unconscious. The Inner Moon as the Full Moon activates the Right Hemisphere of the brain and the related areas where metaphysical dreams of profound kind are made available. It is such experiences that are later reflected upon and made the conscious contents of metaphysical understanding.

Now the verse below explains why sexual abstentions are necessary during such periods. For when during coitus, there is discharge of the seminal fluid, the Vintu, the Inner Moon declines and may even disappear totally ushering the Amavasai, the Inner darkness, This would mean deactivation of the Right Hemisphere and hence dreaming and related intuitional functions of the mind. This means there will no further excursions of the Depths or the Unconscious leading to a shallow and mundane kind of existence where only worldly thoughts will prevail.

Now this sexual abstinence also ensures the continuous presence of the Moon as the Full Moon and which will serve to recover youthful virility and vitality during old age. As already mentioned several times, then there will the flow of Amutu, the ambrosia as if heavy rains enabling the rejuvenation and the recovery of a youthful body.

காமுறவு இன்மையின் கட்டுண்ணும் மூலத்தில்

உரை:

காமக் கலவியின் போது விந்துவாகிய சுக்கில நீக்கம் நடக்கும் போது, அகத்து சூக்கும தேகத்தில் சந்திரனாக விளங்கும் குண்டலினி சத்தி குறைய அது சந்திரன் தேய்ந்து அமாவாசை நாளுக்கு கொண்டு செல்லும். ஆயினும் காம உறவு இன்றி தவத்தில் இருக்கும் யோகிகட்கு விந்து இவ்வாறு சுக்கில நீக்கமாக நடவாது போக, அது சூக்கும தேகத்தில் கட்டப்பட்டவாறு நீங்காது நிற்கும். இத்தகைய சித்தர்கள் அறிவினை, ஓங்கி அகத்தே நிற்கின்ற மதிக்குள் விட்டு, அது நீங்காது பூரணையாக உறைவதை உணர்ந்து மகிழ்வார்கள்.

Meaning:

During those days where sexual union takes place and there is discharge of Vintu, the seminal fluid, the Inner Moon declines and leads to Amavasai- full darkness. Now for the Yogies who maintain sexual abstinence as part of the Tapas they practice, this does not happen and the inner Moon remains full in their subtle body or the unconscious. They will understand this by directing their thinking towards the Depths and sense its presence there.

Origins of the Full Moon

The Inner Moon, the moon-shaped KuNdalini Sakti, can exist in the Unconscious in various shapes that are different degrees of the Crescent Moon. It can also exist as the Full Moon, the PuraNai but either very distant hence quite small in size or very large glorious and very brilliant and hence very close to the soul.

It has been noted that if a Siddha manages to maintain the Full Moon glorious and bright deep within, there will be a great flow of Amutu, as if a torrential rain helping out maintaining a youthful and active physical body.

Here in this verse, there is an explanation on the origination of such a Full Moon and through that maintaining good health and youthful vitality and all through facilitating KuNdalini transforms

It is noted the KuNdalini Sakti that emerges as the Sun has always with it four degrees of Fire, the Agni Kalai. Now this Sun that is always in the Depths, if it increases the Agni component to the maximum of the ten degrees and unites with the declining phase of the Inner Moon, the Moon will swell with an immense supply of energy becoming the glorious and very bright Full Moon, quite close to the soul. The ordinary Moon when it gets supplies of energies as brightness of the Sun and Heat of the Fire, then it swells to become the Full Moon that will enable the soul enjoy a great flow of Amutu, the rejuvenating Ambrosia.

சூறு உற நான்கும் தொடர்ந்து உறவே நிற்கும்

ஈறு இல் இனன் கலை ஈரைந்தொடே மதித்

உரை:

சூக்கும தேகத்தில் வேறுபடத் தோன்றும் மிகப் பிரகாச செங்கதிர் வடிவ சூரியன், வெப்பம் கூடிய அக்னி கலை நான்குடன் தொடர்ந்து உறுதியாக நிற்கும். யாண்டும் மறையாது நிற்கும் இந்த அகத்துச் சூரியன் அக்னி கலை பத்துடன் கூடி மிகவும் சூடாகி சந்த்ரகலை பிற்பாதி ஆறுடன் இணைய அது முழுமதியாக பூரணையாக வடிவெடுக்கும்.

Meaning:

In the Inner World (Unconscious) when the Sun arises differently i.e. as intensely hot, it will come along with the four degrees of Fire, the inner Agni. When however this inner Sun that is always there increases the Agni component to the maximum of ten degrees and unites with the last six degrees of the declining phase of the Moon, then the Moon will swell to become the Full Moon

Sexuality and Unconscious

It is quite well known that there are different types of sexual activities among the animals as well as human beings. Some are healthy and some are not, a fact that has become clear in the face of AIDS and such other sex related diseases.

While this verse is very difficult to interpret and understand because so crypt, but nevertheless the message is quite clear and is in favor of healthy sexual activities that are delineated in terms of what happens in the Unconscious or the Cuukkuma Teekam, the subtle body.

When sexual unions and hence the ejaculation of the seminal fluid during the orgasm takes place within a sexual arousal prompted by the FEELINGS of LOVE between a male and a female, then in the Unconscious of both there will the burst of Energy in the form radiant Sun that would provide the necessary physical energy for indulging in vigorous bodily activities.

Now when the energy as such dwindles and the Inner Sun becomes weak, then the Kundalini Sakti would burst into the Unconscious in the form of the Moon that would reinstitute LOVE and hence sexual arousal with feelings resulting in another series of sexual activities that would result in reganing the lost energy.

Thus if the Sun and Moon in the Depths are thus regulated with the sexual activities dominated by LOVE feelings, emotional aesthetics, there will be a lasting healthy relationship between bodily activities and inner energy supplies.

This explanation of healthy sexuality also implicates what is not healthy. When the sexual acts do not reach out Unconscious or the Depths and regulate the supply of energies in the form of Radiant Sun or the cool Moon, then it is unhealthy. Perhaps a good example is sexual activities with the prostitutes where there is NO LOVE at all. When the necessary emotions and aesthetics of LOVE as such is lacking, the DEPTHS of the souls are not kindled and energized leading to energy atrophy.

புணர்வு இந்து வீசும் கதிரிற் குறையில்

உணர்வும் உடம்பும் இவை ஒத்து நிற்கில்

உணர்வும் உடம்பும் ஒருக்கால் விடாவே

உரை:

ஆழமான காதல் உணர்வினைத் தரும் விந்துத் தூண்ட, பெணடிர் தம் சுரோணிதம் ஊறும் உறுப்பைச் சேர்ந்தால், அதாவது கலவி நடந்தால், சமபந்தப் பட்டோர் சூக்கும தேகத்தில் குண்டலினி சத்தி கதிரவ வடிவில் வீசும். இந்த கதிரவ வடிவ குண்டலினி குறையும் போது, மீண்டும் புணர்வு சம்பவிக்க, சூக்கும தேகத்தில் சந்திரன் வடிவில் குண்டலினி சத்தி தோன்றும். இவ்வாறு காமவுணர்வும், அதனால் வரும் உடம்பின் கலவி வேட்கையும் ஒத்து நிற்கில், இவை விட்டு நீங்காது தொடர்ந்து உயிருக்கு உதவியாக நிற்கும்.

Meaning:

When the ejaculation of the seminal fluid takes place with sexual arousal prompted by deep love feelings, there will be KuNdalini Sakti swelling in the Unconscious as the radiant Sun. When this Sun becomes weak, there will be the emergence of KuNdalini Sakti as the Moon (that would cause sexual arousal again) When the physical coitus of the body remains regulated by the feelings in the depths, there will be a continuous presence of these energy chnages.

Drinking the Moon Juice (Soma Paanam)

What we call here the Moon Juice is called the Amutu, the nectar of longevity or the Ambrosia of great pleasures and so forth and appears to be the same as the Soma Juice of Rig Veda and so forth.

Part of the Candra Yoga is to ascend the Cakras reach the Sahasrat Talam, the Realm of the Lotus of Thousand Petals where emerges the Inner Moon even as the Full Moon, the PuurNima.

The worship of this PuurNima is well entrenched at least among the Hindus to this day and is related to aspects of Candra Yoga being expounded here.

However it transpires that it is NOT the ritual practice of worship that will bring success but rather freeing one self from seeking endlessly worldly pleasures where the soul remains bound and enchained to the senses. Even when there is knowledge of the various mantras that regulate the lower mental modules like Buddhi and so forth, they continue to practice reciting such mantras for seeking more and more worldly pleasures. Such individuals will NOT succeed in accessing the Realms of the Lotus and enjoy drinking the Soma juice.

They have to become metaphysical and learn to free themselves from seeking sensory pleasures by seeking the pleasures of the Mind and learn to ascend the Cakras by gaining deep and profound metaphysical illuminations.

The pleasures of this Amutu, unlike the sensory pleasures do not destroy health but serve to rejuvenate the body and enhance both mental and physical wellbeing.

விடாத மனம் பவனத்தொடு மேவி

நடாவு சிவசங்கின் நாதம் கொளுவி

கடா விடா ஐம்புலன் கட்டுண்ணும் வீடு

படாதன இன்பம் பருகார் அமுதே

உரை:

ஆன்மாவின் அந்தகரணங்களாகிய மனம் புத்தி ஆங்காரம் சித்தம் எனும் நாங்கில், உலக வாழ்க்கையில் பல இன்பனக்களை நாடி விடாது செல்லும் மனம் ஐம்புலன்களோடு அனைத்தையும் சிவசங்காகிய ஓங்காரதிலிருந்து மேவி, சித்தப் பகுதியில் நின்று பல நாட்டங்களை உற்பவிக்கும் மந்திரங்களை உண்டெனக் கொண்டு அவற்றைப் பயின்று, அவை செலுத்த அல்லது கடாவ, ஐம்புலன்களின் ஆட்சிக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டு பலவகையான போகங்களை தூய்த்து மகிழும்- கட்டுண்ணும் உயிர்கள் உள்ளன. இப்படிப்பட்ட ஆன்மாக்கள் இவற்றை விட்டு நீங்கினாலே ஒழிய வீட்டின்பம் உண்டு என்று அறியாது மிக ஆழமான மனநிறைவைத் தருகின்ற உச்சிக் கமலத்து அமுதினைப் பருகாது போவர்.

குறிப்பு:

உலக இன்பங்களை நாடி செல்வது ஒழித்தாலேயே சந்திரனின் அமுதப் பாலை உண்டு மகிழ முடியும்.

Padaatana inbam parukaar amutee

Meaning:

There are the mental modules Manam Buddhi AGkaaram and Suddham where various kinds of desires are installed by the Mantras coming from the Primordial Logos Om, the Conch of Siva. These mantras install worldly desires making the soul enjoy various kinds of sensory pleasures and remain bound to enjoying such pleasures even by reciting the necessary mantras. Such souls will never become aware of the possibility of Moksa and enjoy the pleasures of the Ambrosia oozing out from the Inner Moon by ascending to the Sahasra Talam by dissociating themselves from the sensory pleasures.

Converting KuNdalini into Sexual libido

The Siddhas from very ancient times have been concerned with overcoming untimely death due to a variety of reasons. One of the ways they have hit upon is maintaining the body as youthful and with its characteristic sexual virility.

While there is the natural youthfulness that comes as something natural and biological, it lasts only for about 30 years or so after which senility sets in and hastens not only death but also a hellish life of many diseases and miseries,

The solution to all these and avoid senility as such is keep the body always as youthful and with its characteristic sexual virility and prowess.

Now while this is not possible for ordinary individuals the Siddhas who ascend the various Cakras through gaining metaphysical illuminations and reach the Cakras of the Lotus above the Aknja Cakra, encounters there the massive river of Amutu, the heavenly Ganges,

Now this energy appears in the Brain-stem or the Unconscious as the Sun Moon Stars Fire and Snake and so forth. Now if the Siddha collects together all these various transforms of KuNdalini Sakti, integrates them and let them flow as the sexual libido to the groin area and recovers the sexual prowess and through that the youthful frame, then not only avoids untimely death but also a hellish life of diseases and various kinds miseries.

அமுதப் புனல் வரு ஆற்றங்கரை மேல்

குமுழிக்குள் சுடர் ஐந்தையும் கூட்டிச்

சமை அத்தண்டு ஓட்டித் தரிக்க வல்லார்க்கு

நமன் இல்லை நரகு இல்லை நாள் இல்லை தானே

உரை:

ஆயிரவிதழ் தாமரை விளங்கும் சகஸ்ராரத்தில் அமுதப் புனல் வரும் ஆறு உண்டு. அதன் கரை மேல் ஓர் குழிக்குள் சந்திரன் சூரியன் அக்னி தாரகை பாம்பு என்ற வடிவங்களில் வரும் குண்டலினி சத்தியைக் கூட்டி சமைத்து இணைத்து முதுகந் தண்டு வழியாக மூலத்திற்கு ஓச்சி இளமை வீரியம் தரிக்க வல்லார்க்கு, மரணத்தைத் தரும் நமன் இல்லை பொல்லாத நாள் இல்லை என்பதொடு உடலோடு இருக்கும் போதே பல நோய்களால் அவதிப்படும் நரக வாழ்க்கையும் இல்லை.

குறிப்பு:

அளப்பரிய குண்டலினி சத்தியை மூலத்திற்கு கொண்டு சென்று இளமை வீரியம் மகிழ்வார்க்கு மலத்தால் வரும் மரணம் இல்லை

Meaning:

At the Realm of the Lotus of Thousand Petals, flows a massive river of Amutu that assumes the shapes of the five radiant elements of Sun Moon Stars Snake and Fire. Now if one collects them all in the globule of the Brain-stem and integrating all these into KuNdalini Sakti and force it to flow through the spinal cord to the groin area and enjoy it as Sexual Libido, there is no ordinary death, hell-like life of miseries and days of misfortunes.

The Amutu and Sexual Libido

The Siddhas of Candra Yoga, as many verses indicate, are Tantrics who used sexual libido as ambrosia that ensures not only good physical and mental health but also something that ensures a happy and joyful earthly life. There is aresthetics associated with sexuality and which contributes to joys in bodily existence.

This verse reinforces the fact that a Siddhas should access the Cakra above the Aknja, the Cakra of the Lotus where emerges kuNdalni Sakti as the Moon. While it is true there are shapes like the Sun Stars and so forth, it is the Moon shape that oozes the Amutu and which can be increased many fold by re-transforming the energies as the suns star and so forth into the Moon Energy.

Now if this Amutu is made to flow from the brain-stem through the spinal cord to the groin area where are located the sexual organs and energize them, the whole body gets energized and through that maintained in good shape by arresting the biological disintegration and so forth that brings about senility. Keeping the body always capable of sexual virility not only allows a youthful body of no diseases and so forth but also a healthy attitude towards earthly life. Instead of feeling miserable and lonely, such a person is inclined to appreciate the beautiful and through that lead a life full of joys of all kinds.

மாறு மதியும் மதித்திரு மாறின்றித்

தாறு படாமல் தண்டோடே தலைப்படில்

ஊறு படாது உடல் வேண்டும் உபாயமும்

பாறு படா இன்பம் பார்மிசைப் பொங்குமே

உரை:

சூக்கும தேகத்தில் சந்திர வடிவில் தோன்றும் குண்டலினி சத்தி வளர்தலும் தேய்வதுமாக வந்தாலும், அதனை மாறாது உயர்வாக மதித்து போற்றி வரவேண்டும், பூரணை வடிவத்து அந்த மதி உச்சிக் கமலத்தில் பெரும் மழையென அமுதத்தைப் பொலிய, அதனை தடுமாற்றம் இன்றி எவ்வாறும் பிறழாது, முதுகந் தண்டோடே கீழே மூலத்திற்கு இறக்கி காமக் குண்டலினியாக தலைப்படில். உடல் எவ்வித சிதைவும் படாது உறுதியாக இளமைப் பொலிவோடு நிற்க, குறைவிலா இன்பம் பார்மிசைப் பொங்கி உலக வாழ்க்கையை உவகை நிறைந்த ஒன்றாக்கும்.
